Dr. Julien Martel

Family physician and minor emergency care Medical Director, Minor Emergency

He is a general practitioner with unique expertise in artificial intelligence and programming. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Université de Montréal in 2008, followed by his certification in family medicine from the College of Physicians in general practice in 2010. In 2011, he completed an additional year of emergency medicine training and received the CCFP(EM) designation. In 2012, he also undertook medical simulation training at the Harvard Institute for Medical Simulation (IMSAL).

Since 2012, he has been an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Montréal and has over a decade of experience as a general practitioner in the emergency department at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM). He was also a member of the committee of CHUM’s School of Artificial Intelligence in Health (ÉIAS).

In addition to his interest in medical sciences and emergency medicine, Dr. Martel is passionate about technology and computer science. He has completed several training programs in programming, data science, and artificial intelligence, and has published articles in the field. He is the co-founder of DXA and ML+, two companies specializing in the application of AI in healthcare, which he sold in 2018 and 2020, respectively. As a consultant, he has collaborated with major companies in artificial intelligence and data science and regularly speaks on the topic of AI applications in healthcare.

From 2016 to 2020, he served as Medical Director for Dialogue, a virtual care platform. In 2022, he founded Datadoc, an online learning platform focused on applying data science to health sciences.

He is passionate about metabolic health and performance and is himself an amateur triathlete, aiming to qualify for the world championships in his age group in the half-distance category. He firmly believes that the cornerstone of healthy longevity lies in optimizing metabolic health through a holistic approach to primary prevention.
