Dr. Christophe Longpré-Poirier

Psychiatrist

Dr. Longpré-Poirier transitioned from a high-level hockey career—where he won the Memorial Cup with the Québec Remparts—to completing a bachelor’s degree in physical education at McGill University in 2013. He continued to enjoy athletic success, as his hockey team, the Redmen, won the Canadian University Hockey Championship. He then pursued medical studies at the Université de Montréal, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2018 while conducting various mental health research projects and earning a place on the Dean’s Honour List. In 2023, he completed his psychiatry residency and a PhD in biomedical sciences.

His research career, conducted within several teams, led to multiple awards and scholarships, including the Governor General’s Academic Medal. His work focuses on identifying physical health indicators related to mental health conditions.

Dr. Longpré-Poirier has published numerous articles in respected scientific journals and has presented his research at several international medical conferences.

His background as an athlete, combined with his training in physical education, psychiatry, and research, has shaped his clinical approach, which links mental health with physical health. This integrated perspective is particularly relevant to future collaborations with researchers at the EPIC Centre of the Montreal Heart Institute, where studies on healthy lifestyle habits—including physical activity—are underway.

In addition to hockey, Dr. Longpré-Poirier enjoys running, soccer, and golf. He is also passionate about travel and has a strong interest in meditation and mindfulness.
