Dr. Raja Hatem MD, FRCPC

Cardiologist

He primarily practices at Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal.

He graduated in medicine from the Université de Montréal in 2009, where he also completed his residencies in internal medicine and cardiology. In 2016, he pursued additional training in interventional cardiology and hemodynamics, focusing specifically on complex and high-risk procedures, at the prestigious Columbia University in New York.

In addition to being involved in teaching and clinical research, he concentrates his practice on the treatment of coronary artery disease, particularly through percutaneous approaches for chronic total occlusions (CTO) and other complex high-risk hemodynamic procedures (CHIP).

He frequently presents at national and international conferences in his field of expertise and has contributed to several reference book chapters on coronary angioplasty. He has also published numerous articles in recognized scientific journals.

Frequently sought after by medical industry partners, he was the first in Canada to successfully use the Mamba™ microcatheter (Boston Scientific) during a complex coronary intervention in August 2020, and participated in the first Canadian use of the iFR SyncVision co-registration system (Philips) in 2018.

He is currently Director of the CTO-CHIP Program at the CIUSSS du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, based at Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur.

He deeply values the concrete impact he can have on patients’ lives through the tremendous advances in interventional cardiology over the past 20 years. He has developed both expertise and a strong interest in the design and engineering of equipment used in the cath lab.

He is passionate about scientific communication, as well as sailing, history, physical training, and spending quality time with loved ones, family, and friends. A travel and food enthusiast, he’s always on the hunt for culinary surprises.
